Social workers help people solve personal and family
relationships or learn how to cope with community issues
having an impact on their lives. They counsel their
clients, identify the clients' concerns, ponder solutions,
and find resources often where quick solutions are needed.
Social workers work with families encountering serious
conflicts, including child and spousal abuse, and issues
resulting from disease of old age. A large area of specialization
is gerontological services. Some of the situation social
workers become involved with are housing, unemployment,
lack of job skills, financial crises, disability, substance
abuse, unwanted pregnancy and disruptive social behavior.
Social workers primarily work in the non profit sector,
which means the pay is often less then a for profit
job. Many social workers continue on with their education
on to the graduate level. A master's or doctorate's
in clinical social work can lead to various career opportunities.
